These water heater prices will be much higher than the traditional electric, natural gas, and LP heaters for the simple fact that most of them have on-board computers and a blower motor that doesn’t rely on atmospheric pressures. While the water heater prices won’t be as high a commercial heater, they also won’t reclaim as fast as commercial water heaters. If you are a single family, than this won’t affect you in the least. You’ll have constant hot water and never be stuck with a cold shower!
I know what most of you are thinking: “Why would I need such a heater in my house?” Well that’s a good question, and the answerer is, sometimes you just don’t have a choice. Here’s an example of a power vent water heater I installed just the other day:
A young couple had just moved into an older farm house. The water heater was located in the kitchen in the middle of the room; an ugly thing to have to look at all day long. So they decided to move their water heater downstairs. One problem: They had no chimney to vent a gas or LP heater into, and their electrical panel was already overflowing with used breakers. Their best option was to go with a power vent heater and discharge the fumes outside of the house. While they payed much higher water heater prices, they gained much more room and a much better looking kitchen.
Rheem makes a very nice Power Vent water heater. Their water heater prices are very reasonable, and they have been around for a very long time, so you know if you have any problems, they will be there with technical support to help you get the problem solved.
A.O. Smith also makes a top of the line model that I’ve installed in many houses. These heaters are designed with a sealed power vent assembly that is quiet and very safe to operate. They run off of a regular 120 volt plug, which is easy to run, and other than that extra hook up, they run the same way as any other gas heater. While the water heater prices are a bit higher, they will last years and years to come. So once installed, just sit back and enjoy the piece of mind of not having to worry about another machine failing and costing you more money; which is something we would all like to feel from time to time.
